Real life projects with all the challenges and headaches: deadlines, change requests, catch-22’s, and ambiguous instructions. Interruptions, reassignments. |
Bootcamp is a rude awakening for most new engineering graduates. School is over. Now it's time to work.
It is stressful, overwhelming, and challenging. Individuals must successfully adapt to working in teams and roles.
Those unsuited, quickly drop out. What remains are dedicated, capable engineers with pride and professionalism in their work and their team.
Bootcamp boosts efficiency.
Why Bootcamp?
For some 16+ years, students have shuffled to class, all doing the same things, independently, and competitively working against one another. Success depended on cycles of lecture-readings and examinations. Scores and personal achievement were the final goal.
This is great if clients are running one-person projects, with a study guide and exams. Truth is they are not, and grads were unprepared for engineering roles. Bootcamp breaks the academic cycle, the culture of individual competitiveness, rivalries and scores. Individuals needed a ‘re-boot’, and new operating systems.
Enclave’s Bootcamp was conceived in interviews with seasoned ODC clients. Clients who had experience operating ODC’s in Vietnam, India, China, and elsewhere. What emerged was a sense that Vietnam’s engineers were well regarded. Clients wanted more efficiency, more experience (maturity), and better communication.
Clearly we needed a vehicle like a Bootcamp-very high impact with lasting results. We could make concrete progress in a short period of time. Those who were up to the challenge would survive.
We impart training like anyone else. What is different is we engender professionalism, break down obstacles-most could be attributed to cultural influences. Effective teamwork- could only be built upon this. Soft-skills were renamed as delivery skills to underscore their vital importance. We abandoned classroom delivery as much as possible, we introduced uniforms and introduced new traditions. Bootcamp was not about training, but instead transformation.
